What Is A Carbon Footprint?

We hear a lot these days about carbon footprints. We talk about how big it is or how small can we make it? Let’s look at what exactly a carbon footprint is.

According to the website timeforchange.org it’s the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities. Usually it’s expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

As an illustration: when you drive a car, the engine burns fuel which creates a certain amount of CO2. Additionally, when you heat your house with oil, gas or coal, then you also generate CO2. Another area is when you buy food and goods, the production of the food and goods also emitted some quantities of CO2.

So your carbon footprint is the sum of all emissions of CO2 (carbon dioxide), which were induced by your activities in a given time frame. Typically a carbon footprint is calculated by one year increments.

How To Make Your Carbon Footprint Smaller

Another phrase we hear a lot anymore is, “going green”, or “building green”. The more you build green or convert your existing home into a “green” home, the smaller your carbon footprint will be.

So how are people “going green”? Here are the top 5 global green building trends of 2017:

1. Solar Panels

2. Home Energy Storage

3. Energy Management Systems

4. Passive Building Design

5. Sustainable Building Materials

Window Tinting and Going Green

How does home and commercial window tinting fit into this industry? Window film can help homes and businesses minimize their energy consumption. The less heat coming into your home or business the less your AC has to run, thus cutting down on CO2 consumption. Window film installation is environmentally friendly if full window replacement is not needed.
